Petite Fashion: 13 Tricks & Tips to Make your Legs Look Longer

Last updated: November 22, 2020

The key to making your legs look a mile long and slimmer is to make the longest unbroken visual line possible! Read all the tips&tricks  on how you can achieve it!

TIP 1

SKIN TONE SHOES

Match your shoes the same tone as your legs in that way will make them look like that line is not broken all the way down to your toes. Speaking of toes, choose pointed toe shoes in nude colors to create an optical illusion that will give you a couple of extra inches. Extra points: If the style of your shoe is going to have a low vamp, that will expose even more of your foot.

TIP 2

HIGH-WAISTED ALL THE WAY

Your legs visually start where your torso ends, so if you move that waistline up, then that’s going to heighten your legs. Less torso = more legs! Both high rise skirt and pants work wonders in petite fashion.

TIP 3

MONOCHROME OUTFITS

Wearing one color from head-to-toe will create a visually extended line. If you are wearing dark color pants, then dark color shoes will make them look like your feet are the extension of your legs. Anytime you wear pieces in contrasting colors it creates a break in the body, which can shorten your shape.

TIP 4

EXTRA LONG WIDE LEG OR STRAIGHT LEG PANTS

This type of pants makes it literally impossible to tell the actual shape of a person’s legs. Also, if they are floor-grazing and you’ve got a cute pair of shoes underneath them which no one can see, that will make the others wonder how long your legs actually are.

TIP 5

VERTICAL LINES NOT HORIZONTAL

It’s important to remember that the eye travels the way the line goes. if the eye goes up and down, then this will lengthen the look. If you are not a big fan of the black and white stripes, go for vertical prints that are more subtle. Dresses or jumpsuits form an unbroken vertical line, which is very flattering to petite women.

TIP 6

TUCK IT OR FRENCH TUCK IT

Next time you will wear a shirt, try to tuck it into your jeans, so that de-emphasize the width of your midsection.

TIP 7

DARK WASH DENIM

Black and dark washed colors will give you a slimmer silhouette for sure. Anytime you’re dressing to make legs look thinner it’s best to select dark wash options.

TIP 8

MATCH SHOES TO PANTS OR TIGHTS

If you’re wearing dark wash jeans, then you want to add something that matches your footwear.

TIP 9

PAPER BAG SHORTS

These shorts are a little bit longer than other shorts and they still are contrasting that by bringing up the waistline.

TIP 10

DRESS / SKIRT WITH HIGH SLIT

If midi skirts have slide slit, that changes the balance point of the look. When you are walking or sitting down, the side slit shows a bit more skin on your legs, which will make it look like your outfit fits you properly.

TIP 11

OPT FOR A CROPPED JACKET / CARDIGAN

Just like high-waisted pants, anything cropped will work in your long leghorn favor. Raising the hem of your jacket/cardigan will make your waistline like it way up further. Remember to pair cropped jackets with longer skirts or pants instead of a mini skirt or cropped pants to balance it out.

TIP 12

AVOID KNEE-LENGHT SKIRTS

If you’re a fan of skirts then the midi skirt is going to be your best friend! Remember: They mustn’t hit at the widest point of your calf. The calf is the thickest part of your leg and if the skirt or dress ends here it makes you look stumpy. Unless you want to visually break up into two sections, you shouldn’t go for a knee-length skirt.

TIP 13

TRY A JUMPSUIT

For petite women, the best way to create the illusion of height is to wear one piece. The idea behind jumpsuits is that create a whole look, that no one knows where your legs end and your torso begins. A jumpsuit can really elongate the petite body frame and be one of the most flattering pieces in your wardrobe.
