Sister Golden Personalized Bridesmaid Packages

Sister Golden Bridesmaid Packages 2_smaller

This took me WAY too long to post, but I wanted to take a few minutes to share the gorgeous bridesmaid ask packages I collaborated on with Brooke of Sister Golden. I virtually met Brooke through one of my closest college friends (who also happens to be one of my bridesmaids), and even though we’ve never actually met face to face, we are definitely two peas in a pod.

So when I saw that Brooke was putting together charming gift packages focused around themes like housewarming and Mother’s Day, I knew I had to get in touch. I mailed hand-written notes to Brooke and she took the time to individually wrap each package with adorable themed paper & stamping, and then she mailed these GORGEOUS packages out on the same day, with the goal of coordinating their arrival so each girl received hers on the same day — it wasn’t perfectly precise, but it was still pretty close.

You’d think the shorter days and the longer stints of darkness would bring out more of a blogging habit in me (it certainly has the past few years) — but for some reason, this year is different. My morning commute is largely in the dark, my evening commute is largely in the dark, and somewhere along the line I think my inspiration got lost. Perhaps it’s because I don’t have the daylight to photograph new recipes and fresh outfits. Or the cold that has me dressed like an eskimo every time I go outside.

This post isn’t meant to be a whining rant. Let’s call it instead an intentional refresh. There’s lot of inspiration to be found in snowy days. Lots of warm stews to be made and cozy scarves to be donned and warm-weather plans to be anticipated. So here’s me committing to try a little harder. To start that knitting project I’ve been putting off and to read those books I have stacked by my bedside. Let’s make this year’s hibernation a good one. The March thaw will be here soon enough!

DIY Holiday | Handmade Holiday Cards

This is the first year that I’ve sent more than the usual harried five or six holiday cards. And somewhere along the line, I got it into my head that I wanted to make them myself. An unnecessarily meandering trip to Michaels later (ok, make that two trips to Michaels), and I was armed and ready. Now, I don’t expect you to go all in on DIY holiday cards necessarily, but I AM here to tell you that they were really easy to create, cheaper than the $15 for a four-pack options I was finding at my favorite card haunts, and they were actually a lot of fun — probably because there was glitter involved.

So if you’re feeling inspired to follow suit, here’s what you’ll need:

1 set ABCs stamps
1 gold ink stamp pad
1 bottle fine gold glitter
1 bottle gold acrylic paint
various paintbrushes
1-2 packs blank cards + envelopes
1 roll pretty crafting tape
1 black Sharpee
1 black metallic gel pen

For these cards, I simply stamped out the messages in gold, and then used a flat paintbrush to create abstract strokes of gold paint along the bottoms or edges. Immediately after applying the paint, I sprinkled gold glitter over it and carefully tapped the excess onto a disposable plate. Allow the cards to dry for an hour (or overnight) just as a precaution, and then you’re ready to personalize.

Note: I originally purchased brown paper cards + envelopes, but found that the gold was too similar to the brown in color. I ultimately wound up using off-white cards, black metallic gel pen for messages, brown envelopes, and a black Sharpee for addressing.

Finish with a stamp and seal with crafting tape, and you’re ready to mail!

WDC Gift Guides! | Gift Ideas for Brothers & Boyfriends

Gift Guides 2014_Brothers Boyfriends

Nowww for one of the tougher ones — at least for me.

BUT, I can honestly say tracking down finds for my brother and boyfriend this year hasn’t actually been as bad as usual. And that’s probably due to a few key shops that are doing an amazing job of curating must more exciting items than the usual sweaters + socks routine.

WDC Gift Guides! | Gift Ideas for Sisters & Girlfriends

Alrighty, now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to dive back into GIFT GUIDES!

Perhaps one of my favorite gifts to pick out each year is whatever I get for my sister. Probably because we have very similar taste and I can just basically pick out things I love and give them to her — aka everything in today’s post. We’ll get to the tougher finds later — don’t even get me started about gift ideas for dads. For now, the easy one, gift ideas for girls — the sister, the sister-in-law, the girlfriend (for the very few gents that might be reading this), the friends. Pretty much any female on your list, see below:

The Best Black Friday Sales + Cyber Monday! (Updated)

I’ll be straight with you. I’ve never been one to get up early on Black Friday and stake out sales at an ungodly hour. I’m too busy sleeping off the feast of the day before. HOWEVER, I am a huge fan of the best Cyber Monday sales (and how e-shopping has basically made Black Friday + Cyber Monday the same thing). Even though it’s back to the grind today (cue the waterworks), I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye on the best sales — I LOVE Cyber Monday for those bigger-ticket items, for stocking up, and for nabbing anything I’m worried will be gone by the time mid-December rolls around.

Here are all my favorite CYBER MONDAY sales — now go ahead and buy those gorgeous boots or that new iPad or that perfect gift before they’re gone!

WDC Gift Guides! | Gift Ideas for Foodies and Hostesses

Gift Guides 2014_Foodies

It should come as no surprise that creating these gift guides for you all also has me adding a TON of things to my own wishlist. And it should be even less of a surprise that this was even more the case with this particular gift guide. I mean, Rye Whiskey Caramel Sauce and Smoked Chocolate Chips? Sign me up!

I love a hostess gift that goes a little further than a bottle of wine, and these Terrain Gold-Dipped Spreaders fit the bill perfectly — as does this PERFECT Bulldog Cookie Jar (though the price point of the latter might make it a gift for someone special). Also a go-to gift I like to give — a great new cookbook. I’m not one to buy every single cookbook that hits the stands, but French Comfort Food looks like a great crowd pleaser.

Also high on my food-centric list this year: Anything from Leif — especially these Batik Olivewood Salad Servers, this Brass Tipped Spice Spoon Set, and this Gold Glazed Porcelain Platter. Mostly, I’m just adoring anything gold lately.

Last but not least: Another amazing find from Restoration Hardware — This Mobile Foodie Survival Kit is a steal and is such a fun idea for a stocking stuffer.

Gift Guides 2014

Another holiday season means another round of gift guides! I was trying to wait ’till after Thanksgiving to kick these off, but I was thinking about how many sales you guys might miss out on if we didn’t get a head-start before the mania that is Black Friday + Cyber Monday.

And since it’s a short week, I figured we could start off with happy hour.

Victoria tipped me off to the gift-giving amazingness you can find on Restoration Hardware’s website — this spin-the-shot game would be so fun for a white elephant gift swap. Also pretty awesome and unusual: This dinosaur-style wine holder. So fun! I’ve been a fan of Fab’s funky gift selections for a while now, so this Salut! flask was a no-brainer. And I think I already expressed how much I’m loving Letters on Love’s etsy shop lately — this Dancing on Tables print is too great for above the bar. Oh, and one other that’s been on my list since last year: this Hero Bags dual wine bottle bag.

Sister Golden + Framebridge | A Giveaway!

So I have two important things to share with you today. Remember last week, when I shared a few behind-the-scenes peeks at how decorating our new apartment has been going? Well today, I want to get into the nitty-gritty a little bit (hint: giveaway ahead).

It’s All In The Details | Apartment Sneak Peeks

Apartment Sneak Peek 1_smaller

It’s DEFINITELY still a work in progress, but for the first time (despite promising it with numerous past apartments), I’m actually feeling really great about the décor situation in our new apartment. It’ll be a while before we get it fully into working order (and then I’m sure I’ll keep wanting to change it), but I couldn’t resist sharing a few snippets.
